Journey Flow

The following outline reflects a suggested flow of your journey and can be adapted to suit your pace and preferences.

Day 1

Marrakech, High Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou & Dades Valley

Your journey may begin with a private departure from Marrakech, leaving the city behind as you ascend into the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass. As the landscape opens, the road reveals remote Berber villages, terraced hillsides and quiet mountain life untouched by time. There is space here to pause — for a tea shared with a local family, or simply to take in the stillness of the mountains. Further south lies Aït Ben Haddou, Morocco’s most iconic ksar. Rising from the earth in warm tones of clay and sand, this UNESCO World Heritage site tells stories of ancient caravan routes and desert crossings. A guided visit with a licensed local guide can be arranged to explore its hidden passageways and history in greater depth. By late afternoon, the landscapre shifts as the route unfolds through Ouarzazate and into the Dades Valley, where dramatic rock formations and ancient kasbahs rise from the surrounding landscape. For those who wish to explore further, guided walks or gentle hikes can be arranged through the valley, offering a closer connection to its unique geology and traditional Berber villages. Overnight: Your stay may be arranged at a hand-selected riad or boutique hotel in the Dades Valley, where dinner may be enjoyed in a quiet courtyard setting.

Day 2

Dades Valley, Todra Gorge & Merzouga Desert

The morning may begin gently as you continue toward the desert, travelling through palm-lined valleys and small settlements that mark the transition into Morocco’s southern landscapes. At Todra Gorge, sheer canyon walls rise high above a narrow riverbed. A walk through the gorge offers a striking contrast of light, shadow and scale. By afternoon, the route reaches Merzouga at the edge of the Sahara. Here, the rhythm of the journey changes. As the sun begins to lower, the desert experience begins to unfold. Travel into the dunes by camel, or in the comfort of a 4×4 vehicle, as the colours of the sand shift from gold to deep amber. As night falls, dinner may be served before the evening gently unfolds around the fire, where the steady rhythm of traditional bendir drums carries softly across the dunes beneath the open sky. For those seeking something more intimate, a private table can be arranged among the dunes, set by candlelight and surrounded by the quiet of the desert.

Day 3

Sahara Experience & Merzouga

The Sahara reveals itself differently at first light. Sunrise over the dunes is a moment of stillness — vast, quiet, and deeply memorable. The day is yours to explore at your own pace. Exploration may continue by private 4×4 across the desert landscapes, visiting nomadic communities and remote viewpoints. Encounters here are unhurried and authentic — a chance to share tea, stories, and a glimpse into life in the Sahara. You may also visit Khamlia village, where the rhythms of traditional Gnawa music echo through the desert. Alternatively, the day can be left open for quiet time — to walk the dunes, photograph the shifting light, or simply experience the silence. For those seeking additional adventure, activities such as quad biking or dune buggies can be arranged. Overnight your stay may be arranged in Merzouga, in a desert camp or riad setting of your preference.

Day 4

Merzouga & Draa Valley & Ouarzazate

Leaving the Sahara behind, the journey continues west through Morocco’s vast pre-desert landscapes. The route follows the Draa Valley, where endless palm groves and ancient kasbahs line the horizon. Once a key trading route, this valley carries a quiet sense of history and movement. Along the way, there are opportunities to stop for lunch in a traditional setting — or, for something more personal, a meal can be arranged in a local home, offering a deeper connection to the region. By late afternoon, the route reaches Ouarzazate. Overnight your stay may be arranged in a boutique hotel or riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 5

Ouarzazate, High Atlas Mountains & Marrakech

Your final day may lead back to Marrakech, crossing once more through the High Atlas Mountains. The changing light reveals the landscapes differently on the return journey, offering new perspectives on familiar roads. Arrival in Marrakech is often in the afternoon. For those wishing to end the journey on a memorable note, experiences such as a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the surrounding landscapes can be arranged, offering a final, breathtaking view of Morocco from above.
